In a match played in La Plata, Gimnasia secured a victory over River with a header from Steimbach. During the second half, Maximiliano Zalazar, ex Boca, broke down the right side and delivered an accurate cross for the striker, who entered unmarked into the box, outjumped Nicolás Otamendi, and scored the 1-0 goal for the Lobo.
Before the goal, River dominated possession. With possession as their flag during much of the second half, Eduardo Coudet's team tried to find ways to break the deadlock in La Plata. However, in an action that once again exposed their defensive weaknesses, Gimnasia found spaces to launch a counter-attack and scored with a lethal header.
The play began from a Gimnasia recovery in their own half. With River attacking aggressively and many players ahead of the ball line, the team from La Plata found spaces to attack quickly. The transition was swift and effective: the ball reached Maximiliano Zalazar, who advanced down the right side and delivered an accurate cross into the heart of the box.
There appeared Steimbach, who attacked the space between the center-backs and surprised all of River's defense. The striker won the position, jumped unopposed, and connected a powerful header that left River's goalkeeper with no chance. Nicolás Otamendi, tasked with marking, lost the aerial duel and could not prevent the attacker from finishing comfortably to spark celebrations throughout the stadium.
The action highlighted a defensive flaw that River had already shown in other parts of the championship. Despite controlling possession for much of the second half and playing a significant portion of the game in River's half, the team suffered every time the opponent managed to outflank the first line of pressure. The lack of backtracking and attentiveness inside the area ended up costing them dearly.
