Diego Valdés scored in Vélez Sarsfield's 2-2 draw against River Plate at the Monumental de Núñez, becoming the second goal of the Clausura round. The Chilean, who had already scored against Boca Juniors, continues his goal-scoring streak.

2-2 Draw at the Monumental

The sixth round of the Clausura ended 2-2 at the Monumental de Núñez, where River Plate, coached by Eduardo Coudet, opened the score in the 11th minute with Ángel Correa. In the 43rd minute, River equalised 2-0 thanks to a self-goal by Thiago Silvero.

Valdés on a Goal-Scoring Streak

At the start of the second half, Guillermo Barros Schelotto brought on Diego Valdés. The Chilean, former Audax Italiano and reportedly linked with Colo Colo, scored in the 61st minute when Matías Pellegrini’s shot deflected in his favour, beating goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán. In the 79th minute, Manuel Lanzini sealed the draw with the 2-2.

Valdés has two goals in the last two matches, including a free-kick against Boca Juniors at Huracán’s ground. In the last four games, the national midfielder has netted three goals, the first on 30 July against Talleres de Córdoba.

Tournament Context

Vélez Sarsfield remains unbeaten in the Clausura, with 12 points from three wins and three draws. They sit one point behind the zone leader, Instituto de Córdoba, where Nicolás Guerra plays. The Liniers side, under Schelotto, stays in line with Gimnasia de Mendoza.
